The breathing session is an appointment with yourself, to get to know yourself better on all levels of your being. The session marks the opening of a door that can only be opened through an enhanced supply of oxygen to the body. When you breathe consciously, you don’t hyperventilate because the ratio of the carbon dioxide exiting and the oxygen entering doesn’t change and so you are always aware of where you are and what you are doing. It is a shifting of the way one views oneself. How to do it: it begins with a counselling session, the session being preceded by an intention, which is given focus during the discussion. In this way the energy that is put in motion during the session is directed to supporting one’s well-being. The intention is a short phrase with a positive bent, with no negations and/or negative words, in the first person and in the present tense. At this stage, it is surprising how we are not used to asking for our own well-being. You don’t know what to ask for, or what area of your life to focus on; you start with a want and/or a desire rather than directly stating the action. Then you forget what you are asking for. For example: you state the intention, then you talk for a few minutes and when asked to repeat the intention, you can no longer remember it. It happens to everyone. You forget how and what to ask for, that will be for your own good. The breathing session lasts for about 45 minutes to an hour. You breathe without a break between inhaling and exhaling. The session is divided into two parts, a first part, accompanied by a rhythmic music, where the breathing is initiated and developed, with the help of the facilitator. In this phase the oxygen supply increases and feeds the less oxygenated parts of the body that need additional “nourishment”. During this part of the session, the increased supply of oxygen results in the release of a high percentage, around 70%, of the toxins in the body, and you may feel hot/cold, you may feel a tingling, your head may spin, and there may be an emotional release. It’s like a deep cleansing of the system that creates a wave of powerful well-being, which at the end
of the breathing session you can really feel. The various levels of your system, physical, emotional and mental are all involved and interconnected in the experience, the supply of oxygen creates physical and inner space, and the person feels released. What physically happens is that the movement of the diaphragm is activated and this allows the lungs to expand, protecting them. The diaphragm is one of the elastic parts of the respiratory is system, but over time, due to the effects of emotional turmoil (for example fear), it stiffens, restricting the breathing. Almost 99% of people achieve only 30% of their breathing potential. In the second part of the session the music becomes soft, the facilitator stays at your side without doing anything to influence the expanding of the breathing pattern. The person continues to breathe in a connected manner and stays attuned to his/her body and his/her own emotional world that, as a result of the experience, calms down, while the mental activity slows down and/or stops. The effects of conscious breathing are: a wave of physical energy (the body is cleansed of the toxins in the blood, becoming more lively), greater mental clarity, greater presence and emotional tranquillity. After the session the face and eyes appear relaxed and smiling.
At the conclusion of the experience I assign “homework” in order to maintain the level at which the physical and emotional energy was opened up during the breathing session. Additional sessions are scheduled to expand the breathing, until the breathing pattern has been fully opened up. Opening the pattern also opens up new possibilities of existence as a result of having a much broader vision.
